Dwayne Johnson says he won't seek the presidency

For the 46% of Americans who would probably vote Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson for president, we have some discouraging news: He's merely declining to appear on the ballot. The 50-year-old Black Adam actor claimed on CBS Sunday Morning that he prioritises and focuses on his family, therefore running for president of the United States is "off the table."

"It’s off the table," the pro wrestler turned movie superstar said, repeating himself for emphasis. "I will say this 'cause it requires a B-side: I love our country and everyone in it. I also love being a daddy. And that’s the most important thing to me — is being a daddy. Number one, especially during this time, this critical time in my daughters' lives."

"I know what it was like to be on the road and be so busy that I was absent for a lot of years in my first daughter’s [life]," he said. "Growing up in this critical age at this critical time in their life." So "my number one priority is my daughters," he said. "Sure, CEO sounds great. But the number one thing I want to be his daddy. That’s it.”

Dwayne Johnson for President has been a long-brewing concept. That was the title of an article published in the British GQ magazine in 2016. When the American edition of the magazine published an article with the same title the next year, it crossed the Atlantic (just adding an exclamation point because it deserved one). The notion grew in popularity, and Johnson disclosed in 2018 that he met with specialists from all political spheres to "learn more" about the responsibilities of the position. He issued his first presidential endorsement before the 2020 race, endorsing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

In 2021, a poll indicated that 46% of Americans would probably vote for the movie star if he stood for president. Donald Trump served as commander-in-chief (for context). Johnson expressed his "desire to unite our country" at the time and continued to entertain the notion, adding, "If this is what the people want, then I will do it."

It appears that the general people will continue to see him as a sort of politician, at least for the time being. Recently, Johnson had a "baby kissing" moment while promoting his new film, which is a strategy politicians have historically used to win over the people. A stranger brought their baby through the crowd so that Johnson could hold it. Thankfully, he was willing. Obtaining election? Not really.
