New Delhi: The central government has started controlling the e-commerce companies. As the market for e-commerce companies grows, cases of fraud increases in the same manner. The Government has sought feedback from the States and the general public by the draft so that it can be notified under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said on Tuesday that incidents of cheating the customers by e-commerce companies are on the rise. It was reported that an e-commerce company sent a piece of brick in place of an expensive mobile phone. Similarly, there was a complaint that a woman had ordered a sari from an e-commerce website, which turned out to be cheap. Seeing these events, it has been decided that it will now be compulsory for the e-commerce companies to follow the guidelines.

The guidelines have been made public and remarks and suggestions have been sought from all stakeholders on this. A common man can also write a letter to the Minister or the Secretary of the Department. Under the new Consumer Protection Act, e-commerce companies will have to refund the money to the consumers within 14 days. Also, all e-commerce companies will have to provide information to their Grievance Officer and should upload their contact details on their website. If they get any complaint from the customer's side then they have to sort it out within a time span of one month as per the guidelines.
