EAM Jaishankar discusses Sudan crisis with Egyptian Foreign Minister

NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr S. Jaishankar today, April 20, discussed with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry,  on the ongoing state of affairs in violence-hit Sudan.

Taking to Twitter, soon after his discussion with Shoukry, Dr. Jaishankar wrote: "Discussed the concerning situation in Sudan just now with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry. I Deeply value his assessments and insights, as also his very helpful attitude. I Agreed to remain in close touch." 

Jaishankar's talks with his Egyptian Foreogin Minister over Sudan are part of a series of telephonic conversations he has had with the latter of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia in the past 24 hours.

On April 19, Jaishankar had discussed the situation in violence-hit Sudan with his counterparts from Saudi Arabia and the UAE.  India is closely watching the state of affairs  in Sudan, especially in view of its concerns over the Indians residing in the African country, he said.

Jaishankar said that he spoke on the phone with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and that they discussed the situation in Sudan.

"Thank you for the discussion on the situation in Sudan with HH @ABZayed, the UAE's foreign minister. Our ongoing contacts are beneficial, the minister of external affairs tweeted on April 19.

Since April 15, Sudan has experienced deadly combat between the army and a paramilitary group, which has reportedly claimed the lives of almost 100 individuals.

Jaishankar had mentioned his discussions with the foreign minister of Saudi Arabia, Faisal bin Farhan, and how they will stay in regular contact.

"I Appreciated his assessment of the Sudan situation. and willl remain in close touch," EAM Jaishankar had tweeted after talking to Farhan.
