NEW DELHI: People are panicking aftershocks in several parts of the country on Friday and Saturday. The tremors were felt in Himachal Pradesh, Sonepat, and Maharashtra. In Haryana, light tremors were felt in Sonepat district on Saturday morning with a magnitude of 3.2. The center of the earthquake is said to be at a distance of 5 km from Sonepat. The tremors were felt at Palghar in Maharashtra at 9.17 this morning.

The intensity of the earthquake on the Richter scale is measured at 3.5. Several cities in north India were also hit by mild tremors on the same day. The intensity of the earthquake was 4.0 on the Richter scale. Earlier on Friday, tremors were felt in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the tremors were felt in East Kameng in Arunachal Pradesh at around 4:24 a.m. local time.

The intensity of the earthquake was estimated at 5.5 on the Richter scale. According to the Meteorological Department, the first earthquake struck at 2.52 pm with a magnitude of 5.6. The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 10 km from the ground in the eastern Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. The tremors were also felt at Itanagar, Guwahati, other parts of Assam and Dimapur in Nagaland.

The second earthquake struck at 3.44 p.m. and the epicenter was at a depth of 10 km at another location in East Kameng. The intensity of the earthquake was measured at 3.8. The third earthquake struck at 3.21 pm with a magnitude of 4.9. The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 95 km in Kurung Kume district of Arunachal Pradesh. According to seismologists, the North-East region falls under Zone Five of the seismic map, which means the states in the region are susceptible to earthquakes.
