Myanmar: An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.9 occurred in the Bay of Bengal early on Monday morning, National Centre for Seismology siad. Its epicentre was close to Myanmar, beneath the Bay of Bengal.
NCS tweeted, "Earthquake of Magnitude:3.9, Occurred on 05.06.2023, 07:40:23 IST, Lat: 15.32 & Long: 92.84, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Bay of Bengal, India."
The epicentre of the earthquake was located at latitude 15.32 and longitude 92.84. It was in India's Bay of Bengal, at a depth of 10 kilometres.
No casualties have been recorded as of yet. Notably, the area has seen at least three earthquakes in the last seven months. Previously, on January 1, 2023, the area was shaken by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5 on the Richter scale. At a depth of 36 km, the earthquake was first felt. On the first day of the new year, it was felt at 10:57 am. At 1:19 am on the same day, a second earthquake with a Richter magnitude of 3.8 shook Jhajjar, Haryana.
Beginning on December 5 of last year, an earthquake with a Richter scale value of 5.1 shook the Bay of Bengal. The earthquake struck at a depth of 10 kilometres in the Bay of Bengal at around 8:32 in the morning.
This time, the earthquake was located near Odisha; it was 421 km and 434 km away from Puri in the east and Bhubaneswar in the east-southeast, respectively. The tremor was noticed at that time in Dhka and other areas of Bangladesh.
