Pakistan's legendary bowler Waqar Younis believes that due to easy earnings in various T20 leagues, at times cricketers ignore national interests. Pakistan fast bowling coach Waqar said that Mohammad Aamir and Wahab Riaz retired from Test cricket last year in a similar situation in which their personal interests had a bad effect on the national team. Aamir's decision to retire at the age of 27 years was very much discussed.

Waqar told reporters in a conference call, "Players earn easily from these T20 leagues and they play in them easily because they only have to do four overs in a match." He said, 'But many times, while focusing on their convenience, they do not think how much they are harming the national interest. They do not think about the broader picture.

Waqar did not like the way Aamir and Wahab announced his retirement. He said, 'You announce your retirement on social media, which is really shocking. They should have informed their management and board first. They should have discussed it earlier. It is unfortunate that they did it because it hurt us a little bit. Waqar said, 'But I would not say we have lost anything. If they have made their decision then it is fine. We do not have any grudge against him but I still believe that he could have played now.' He said, 'On being selected in the team, they can play limited overs cricket from Pakistan. Yes, he left the team in a difficult situation at that time.'
