EC cut off my tongue, but no action against Yogi and Naqvi: Azam Khan

Rampur: On Friday, Samajwadi Party leader and Member of Parliament contender from Rampur Lok Sabha constituency, Azam Khan, took a dig at the Election Commission of India for letting senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders an easy way out for violating the poll code of conduct. Political parties, leaders and senior government office bearers have lately found themselves in a soup for voicing their opinions on the developments in the country pertaining to national security and other issues.

Khan said at a political rally yesterday “Yogi ji said ‘Modi ki fauj hai’, Naqvi also said the same thing, EC did nothing…no action against (Rajasthan governor) Kalyan Singh either…but when I had said we will shed the last drop of our blood to protect our borders, EC cut off my tongue. What justice is this?,”. Recently, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath triggered a massive controversy by referring to the Indian armed forces as ‘Modi ki sena’. Later, senior BJP leader and Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi also said somewhat along the same lines.

Adityanath had said “Congress ke log atankwadiyon ko biryani khilate the, aur Modiji ki sena atankwadiyon ko goli aur gola deti hai. Yahi antar hai. Congress ke log Azhar Masood jaise atankwadiyon ke saath ji laga karke atankwad ko protsahit karti hai. Aur Modiji ke netritva mein, aaj aatankwad ko, unke thikano ko nasht aur dhwast karke aatankwad ki hi nahi, Pakistan ki kamar todne ka kaam Bharatiya Janata Party ki sarkar kar rahi hai,”.

The Election Commission yesterday then issued a warning to Adityanath over his remarks and asked him to “be careful in your utterances in future”. According to the EC’s Model Code of Conduct, political parties and candidates are directed to refrain from criticising all aspects of private life, not connected with the public activities of the leaders or workers of other parties. They are also expected to avoid criticising other parties or their workers based on unverified allegations or distortion.
