EC tighten grip over Tej Bhadhur Singh; ask to present NOC from the BSF

New Delhi: On Tuesday, the Election Commission issued a notice to the dismissed BSF trooper, Tej Bahadur Yadav, seeking a No Objection Certificate or NOC from the Border Security Force. The poll panel asked Tej Bahadur Yadav to file his response by 11 am on May 1. He is contesting the Lok Sabha election against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Samajwadi Party's ticket from Varanasi seat in Uttar Pradesh.

Reacting to the EC notice, Yadav alleged a conspiracy, saying that the Returning Officer had found nothing wrong in his nomination when he had earlier filed the papers. He said he was being targetted by the government because of his increasing popularity. Yadav had come into the limelight in 2017 after he highlighted the poor quality of food being served to the troopers in adverse climatic conditions in Jammu and Kashmir. Who is Tej Bahadur Yadav? After his video went viral, Yadav was sacked by the BSF for indiscipline. He had earlier announced that he will contest as an independent candidate from Varanasi. However, on Monday, the Samajwadi Party changed its candidate in the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat and fielded Yadav against PM Modi. Yadav, a resident of Haryana's Rewari, also filed his nomination papers. He is the joint candidate of SP- Bahujan Samaj Party-Rashtriya Lok Dal alliance.  He added "The Samajwadi Party has fielded former BSF jawan Tej Bahadur as alliance candidate in honour of security forces and nationalism. This is the high time that India stands with Tej Bahadur," SP spokesperson Ameeque Jamei told news agency ANI. "There is a major challenge before Modi – he has to decide whether he is with security forces, India and nationalism or he is merely a BJP candidate,".
