US based ecommerce giant Amazon announced on Wednesday that it will launch a Polish-language site at the earliest and began the process of registering companies that want to sell to Polish customers through its platform. Poland nation with a population of 38 million is one of the last major European countries left without a dedicated Amazon website.
Amazon has dedicated sites in France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden within the European Union. Amazon's German website exist with a Polish-language section. Amazon employs around 18,000 people in Poland Warehouses and Amazon Web Services. Alex Ootes, Amazon's Vice President for EU expansion, said in a statement, "The next step is to bring a full consumer retail offering to Poland and we are making those plans now". The company did not disclose any information about exact launch date.
The country's largest online market is captured by Polish ecommerce company Allegro. The company which made the largest stock market entry in Europe in 2020, is currently the country's largest online marketplace. Following Amazon's announcement, shares in Allegro fell by more than seven per cent at the early morning exchanges.
