Economic Survey projects Himachal GSDP set to grow at 83 pc in 202122

According to Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, the economy of Himachal Pradesh (HP) has recovered from the Covid-19 pandemic, with the state's GSDP expected to rise at 8.3 percent in 2021-22, up from negative 5.2 percent in 2020-21.

Thakur, who also holds the finance portfolio, presented the Economic Survey for 2021-22 before the Assembly, stating that the state's GDP is likely to increase by 8.3 percent in 2021-22 after declining in 2020-21, according to advance estimates.

The growth in Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) in real terms between the pre-Covid and post-Covid eras, i.e. 2019-20 and 2021-22, is 2.7 percent. In 2021-22, the state's GSDP is expected to be Rs 175,173 crore at current rates. The per capita income is expected to increase by 10.1 percent this year, from Rs 1.83 lakh to Rs 2.01 lakh in 2021-22, showing a recovery in the economy. According to the report, certain industries have exceeded pre-pandemic output levels.

Visitor arrivals in one of the worst-affected sectors of tourism fell by 81 percent in 2020, but the terrible situation appears to be improving, with a 75.44 percent improvement in tourist flow from December 2021 to December 2022.

Agriculture and associated industries, on the other hand, which have been least affected by the epidemic, are predicted to increase by 8.7 percent this year, compared to a negative 8.6 percent last year.
