Eddie Murphy is back as the iconic Axel Foley in the new Netflix film 'Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F,' which premieres on July 3. This movie marks Murphy's return to the role after 30 years, blending '80s nostalgia with a modern twist.

In the film, Axel Foley heads back to Beverly Hills to protect his estranged daughter, Jane (played by Taylour Paige), who is a public defender. Jane's investigation into a murder uncovers corruption within the Beverly Hills Police Department, putting her in danger.

Murphy is joined by original cast members Judge Reinhold and John Ashton. The film's premiere took place fittingly across the street from the real Beverly Hills Police Department. Notable attendees included actor Martin Lawrence and musician Lil Nas X, adding to the star-studded event.

Reflecting on the original 1984 film, Murphy shared memories of its first screening, which didn't go well initially. However, the movie went on to gross over $300 million worldwide and became a beloved '80s classic, followed by sequels in 1987 and 1994. Actor Paul Reiser, who reprises his role as Jeffrey Friedman, commented on the film's lasting impact, describing it as "comfort food" for fans who grew up with it.

Director Mark Molloy aimed to capture the essence of the first two films by creating a grounded, humble movie that embraces the imperfections of the originals. The new film includes Kevin Bacon as a sinister senior cop and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Foley's new sidekick.

Murphy expressed his satisfaction with the film, saying, "I'm happy the movie worked out right and that it's super-audience friendly. It's always great when you do a good movie."
