Puducherry: Dr.Tamilisai Sounderarajan, the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, announced on Thursday that the union territory's Education Department would develop a uniform dress code for schoolchildren.

A school headmaster urged a Muslim student in class IX to remove her hijab, prompting the Governor's reaction.P.R. Rudra Goud, the Director of School Education in Puducherry, stated that the dress code will include thorough restrictions on uniforms as well as a few items that will be permitted. He also stated that after the government adopts the proposal, the dress code will be enforced among pupils, and that an investigation into the headmaster's request that the student remove her hijab is on

The political parties of Puducherry have expressed their concern to the Lieutenant Governor of the territory, N. Rangasamy, and the Chief Minister of the territory, N. Rangasamy, about the hijab row that has turned violent in neighbouring Karnataka, and have requested that such an issue not occur in Puducherry.

In the announcement, the Lieutenant Governor also stated that the independent MLAs had met with her and discussed various recommendations for the development of the Union Territory.
