Patna: Union Minister Giriraj Singh has given a controversial statement regarding giving weekly holidays on Friday instead of Sunday in many government schools of Bihar. Giriraj Singh has termed the weekly holiday in Bihar's government Urdu schools as an attempt to impose Sharia law.

Begusarai MP Giriraj Singh said, "Friday is an attempt to "implement Sharia law" in schools. "Since childhood, we know that schools and offices are closed on Sundays. Fridays are holidays in some institutions. I find this an attempt to enforce the Sharia code for the benefit of a community," he said. He made this statement in response to a question asked by the media in Patna.

Let us inform that in many districts including Katihar of Bihar, government schools are given a holiday on Friday instead of Sunday, whose tradition has been going on for decades. However, now it has become a matter of dispute between BJP and other parties. This dispute of weekly holiday in government schools of Bihar has now become a reason for discord between CM Nitish Kumar's party JDU and BJP. The interesting thing is that BJP ministers in the state cabinet including Deputy CM Tarkishore Prasad and leaders of the party in the assembly are trying to avoid this controversy.
