Patna: On Sunday, a sense of alarm spread through Gaya, Bihar, when eight coaches of a goods train derailed near Rasulpur. Fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries or property damage in the incident. The derailment occurred around 4:45 PM, involving a coal-laden train, according to officials. Following the accident, several railway officials, including the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of East Central Railway, Saraswati Chandra, arrived at the scene to assess the situation.

Railway authorities have initiated an investigation into the cause of the derailment. Despite the incident, the normal movement of other trains in the area was not affected, and orders for a thorough investigation have been issued.

This event comes on the heels of another near-miss in Katihar, Bihar, where a major rail accident was narrowly avoided. In that incident, five petrol tankers derailed near the Khuriyal and Kumedpur bypass in the Katihar Railway Division, causing disruptions to railway operations.

In response to safety concerns, the Indian Railways has allocated approximately ₹1,100 crore for the implementation of "Rail Kavach," a safety system designed to prevent train collisions. However, with an estimated requirement of over ₹45,000 crore to install this system on all routes, critics argue that it could take decades to complete, raising concerns about the safety of passengers in the interim.
