Elaborate arrangements for organizing annual Tapotsavam in Krishna river

Vijayawada: On Thursday, Prakasam District Collector J Niwas along with Police Commissioner B Srinivasulu, Joint Collector K Madhavi Latha, Durga Temple executive officer D Bhramaramba and other officials inspected the arrangements for Tapotsavam. Earlier in the day, the Collector inspected the arrangements for irrigation, fire, A meeting was convened with the officials of VMC, Fisheries, Revenue and other departments to conduct the Teptsavam. Elaborate arrangements have been made for the annual Tapotsavam to be held in the Krishna river on Friday, the ninth day of the Dussehra festival. The deities will be taken on a ride in a specially decorated hamsa vahanam in the Krishna river near Durga Ghat above the Prakasam barrage.

The district administration and temple authorities organize Tapotsavam every year in a grand manner and a limited number of devotees are allowed to witness the event. Devotees will not be allowed to go to the nearby areas due to one lakh cusecs of flood water flowing in the Krishna river. Officials are of the view that it is not safe to allow devotees to witness Tapotsavam at Durga Ghat. Only officers and priests in a specially lit and decorated boat will take part in the boat ride.

Police Commissioner B Srinivasulu said that there is a possibility of huge crowd of devotees on the ninth day of Dussehra festival. He said that all arrangements have been made for the darshan. He said that tight security arrangements would be made for smooth conduct of Tapotsavam. He said that traffic would not be allowed on the Kanaka Durga flyover and the main road from Durga Mandir to Kummaripalam Junction. Heavy arrangements will be made at Prakasam Barrage and only vehicles having pass will be allowed on Ghat Road. Tappostavam is one of the main attractions in the Dussehra celebrations in Vijayawada.
