Indian shooter Elavenil Valarivan won the 10m Air Rifle gold in junior ISSF World Cup 2018. She broke the qualification world record in Sydney Australia.

Indian shooter Elavenil Valarivan crushed the qualification world record ahead of claiming the gold medal in 10m women's air rifle event of the season's first junior ISSF World Cup 2018 on Thursday.

Besides her individual podium finish, Elavenil is accompanied by Shreya Agrawal and Zeena Khitta to claim the team gold medal. Arjun Babuta bagged his second junior world cup medal, claiming a bronze in men's 10m air rifle event. The 18-year-old Elavenil, contending in her second World Cup and the first final, shot 249.8 in the women's final to have the crown individual honours. Her 631.4 in the qualification is a new world record.

After a 9.6, Elavenil potted the gold-win with a high 10.7 in the crucial 24th shot, getting the better of Chinese Taipei's Lin Ying-Shin.

"I am really glad about my performance here in Sydney. I have been shooting really well and I knew the way I have been performing over the past few months, a victory of this magnitude was around the corner," the 18-year-old youngster said after her remarkable victory as quoted by NDTV.

Elavenil got training by Olympic medalist Gagan Narang in his  Gun For Glory Academy.

"I would like to dedicate this win to my parents and thank Gagan Sir and my coaches at GFG who have been working continuously behind me to make a shooter capable of winning titles at the world stage, she further said.

Elavenil had also clinched a bronze medal at the FISU World Shooting Sports Championship last week.
