Election Commission bribery case: Delhi High Court extends custody bail of middleman Sukesh Chandrasekhar by 1 week

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has extended the bail of middleman Sukesh Chandrashekhar for bribing Election Commission officials to get the AIADMK symbol illegally. The court has extended the bail for a week. Chandrashekhar had demanded an extension of bail from the court on the ground that his mother's surgery had been postponed. Chandrashekhar has assured the court that he will not seek extension of bail after that. Chandrashekhar was arrested by the police in 2017, is an accused in 20 cases.

Earlier, Sukesh Chandrasekhar was granted two weeks bail by the Delhi High Court to meet his mother. The court had said there was no proper reason to refuse grant to him a bail. The court had also said that Sukesh has been in jail for three years and his mother is in a bad condition. Sukesh was also ready to pay the full expenses of the officers accompanying him to visit Chennai. Sukesh was also directed by the court to deposit Rs 5 lakh in the Delhi High Court for the same.

The court had also asked That Sukesh be allowed to leave only if his mother needed his cooperation. However, he was not allowed to meet anyone else during this time. Election Commission officials were bribed to get election symbols in the case. The names of AIADMK leader TT Dinakaran and others were also revealed in the case. Sukesh's wife is a cancer patient, while her mother was hit by a corona virus.
