Chandigarh: A delegation from the Election Commission of India (ECI), led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, arrived in Chandigarh on Monday to assess the readiness for the upcoming Haryana assembly elections. The delegation included Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Dr. SS Sandhu. In a statement posted on X, the ECI confirmed, "An ECI delegation led by CEC Rajiv Kumar and ECs Gyanesh Kumar and Dr SS Sandhu arrived at Chandigarh today to review poll preparedness for forthcoming assembly elections in Haryana."

The current 90-member Haryana Legislative Assembly is scheduled to conclude its term on November 3, 2024. Haryana is among eight states holding legislative assembly elections this year. Political developments include a joint contest by the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the Haryana elections. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced it will independently contest all 90 assembly seats.

In the previous 2019 Haryana Assembly elections, the BJP secured 40 seats, Congress won 31, the JJP claimed 10, and INLD acquired 1 seat. The 2024 Haryana Assembly Elections are anticipated to occur on or before October 2024, but the official election schedule has yet to be announced.
