New Delhi: Election Commission has sent a notice to BJP leader and party candidate from Model Town Assembly seat of Delhi, Kapil Mishra for his recent objectionable tweets. In this notice, Mishra has been asked why action should not be taken against him. In one of the tweets for which Mishra has been given notice from the returning officer, Mishra wrote that "India and Pakistan will compete on the streets of Delhi on 8 February".

Mishra made these tweets at a time when the elections for the assembly elections are to be held in Delhi on 8 February. After receiving the notice, Kapil Mishra said on January 24 that, "I received a notice from the Election Commission last night. I will give my answer today. I don't think I've said anything inappropriate. Speaking the truth is not a crime in this country. I said the truth. I stand by my statement.''

Kapil Mishra quit the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He has also served as a minister in the Arvind Kejriwal government of Delhi. Recently, AAP had complained to the Chief Electoral Officer that Kapil Mishra's nomination letter was wrongly accepted by the returning officer. The AAP had urged the Returning Officer to cancel Mishra's candidature.
