New Delhi: Amidst the increasing cases of the new Omicron variant of the coronavirus in the country, a big meeting of the Election Commission was held on Thursday regarding the UP Assembly elections. Giving information, the Election Commission has said that all the political parties have demanded timely elections regarding the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Due to Omicron, there was a discussion on postponing the UP elections.
Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra on 2022 UP Assembly Elections said, 'Representatives of all political parties met us and told us that elections should be conducted on time following all COVID-19 protocols'. He said, 'We had a meeting with political parties. There is a demand of political parties that elections should be organized on time. Some parties have also expressed concern over the hate speech in the rallies and the crowd in the rallies. Deployment of an adequate number of women booth workers at the polling booths has also been demanded.
Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said in the press conference that, 'So far the total number of voters in the state is more than 15 crores. The actual figures of voters will come out after the final publication. Even after the final publication, if someone's name does not come, then they can claim. He said that according to SSR 2022, 52.8 lakh new voters have been added so far. It has 23.92 lakh male voters and 28.86 lakh female voters. There are 19.89 lakh voters in the age group of 18-19 years.
