New Delhi: On Tuesday, the Election Commission has initiated steps to take down trailers of ‘Baghini’ movie a biopic based on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from at least three internet sites following a report submitted by the chief electoral officer of West Bengal on the biopic ‘Baghini’. Deputy Election Commissioner Sudeep Jain told reporters on Tuesday that the Commission has “initiated steps” to ensure that the trailer is not available online. As for its release on May 3, Jain said the producers have not got certification from the Central Board of Film Certification.

This comes amid the controversy surrounding the biopic on PM Narendra Modi which was slated to release on April 12, also during elections. The Election Commission official cited the same order for initiating action on the Mamata Banerjee biopic. The movie has been directed by Nehal Dutta and produced by Pinky Paul. The Election Commission has ruled that anything that is either biographical or hagiographical in nature could not be and should not be put up and should be removed immediately at least when the elections are being conducted.

The producer of the film had, however, said that the trailers was slated to release on May 3 but the EC claimed that the Central Board for Film Certification hadn’t issued a certification on it yet
