Apart from this, by-elections were also to be held in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh on 2-2 seats and in Assam, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh on 1-1 seats. Most of these seats have become vacant due to the death of the people's representatives. According to the Election Commission, a total of 56 assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat were to be held. The by-elections in 8 seats have been stopped.
