Kolkata: Voting for 144 wards of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has begun today. There have been reports of sporadic violence at various polling stations since this morning. The bombing took place near Khanna in Maniktala today. Section 144 will now remain in force across the metropolis. More than four people are allowed to gather anywhere within 200 metres of the polling station.

In fact, a total of 144 wards of 16 Boro are going to polls and a total of 950 candidates are in the fray out of which 378 candidates are contesting independently. In addition, a total of 4,959 polling stations have been set up while 40 lakh 48 thousand 357 voters will exercise their franchise. Women polling stations have been set up in ward 69 and ward number 93. According to reports, women policemen have been deployed at these centres. Counting of votes will be held on December 21.

Amidst all this, West Bengal Minister and former Kolkata Municipal Corporation Mayor Firhad Hakim said, "People are voting in a festive atmosphere. There is no disturbance. The opposition parties have to protect their faces. Survival has to be protected before the leader. That is why disturbances are being shown at some places. People are voting in a festive atmosphere. He has to protect his face with Amit Shah or Modiji. So, this ruckus is being created. That is why he is talking about an uproar. It is understandable that the TMC has already won the election in the pre-poll review. Why would you spoil your position? '

On the other hand, BJP National Secretary Anupam Hazra took a dig at the incident of assault, violence and booth interference during kolkata municipal elections and said, "Is it peaceful polling? If it is peaceful polling, it seems that the State Election Commission is in a Sunday mood. In this way, the opposition and the opposition are also at loggerheads.
