Union minister Nitin Gadkari today said that the government is serious about promoting electric vehicles and the fleet of electric vehicles with buses, taxis and autorickshaws will be on the roads by the end of this year. 

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said in a program here, "By the end of this year, we will have electric buses, taxis, and autorickshaws. We are serious about this and the auto industry is also very sensitive about it."

On this occasion, Gadkari has flagged 1,000 e-autorickshaws from Hooda city center metro station. The minister took the service of Delhi Metro to go to Hooda City Center and came back from the same. 

In the Cabinet reshuffle, he has also been given the responsibility of water resources, river development, and Ganga protection department. Terming himself as a 'bulldozer', Gadkari said that his ministry and government are continuously working on the electrification of vehicles.

He said, "I am a bulldozer. I want to stop gasoline, diesel ... I am committed to electricity based transport. My mission, my dream is that public transport should run on electricity. "
