Dumka: A herd of wild elephants crushed and killed an elderly man at Kaljhar in Kakykund police station area on Saturday morning while another was seriously injured. After the incident was reported, the forest department team reached the spot and rushed the injured to the hospital for better treatment. The family members of the deceased were immediately given an assistance of 25,000 rupees and sent the body for postmortem.

According to sources, the herd of elephants had come from Ranieshwar police station area in the morning to Kaukund. On Friday, 20-year-old Robin Kisku was crushed to death by a herd of elephants in the Talipahari area of Taldangaal in Ranieshwar. After Robin's death, late night villagers jammed the Dumka-Siudi road. The DFO said that compensation cannot be paid without postmortem.
