CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk has suggested users to switch to the Signal app through a tweet. He took to Twitter after WhatsApp announced to change the privacy policy signalling further integration with Facebook over data sharing. The Signal Foundation, which shares its name with the app, includes former WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton as one of its founders.
A huge number of people are trying out Signal but the app was not prepared to handle the rush of new users. Many people were not even getting verification codes to create an account due to a rush of new users in the Signal app. The app took to Twitter and wrote, “We are working with carriers to resolve this as quickly as possible. Hang in there,” Signal said on Twitter. The app has been downloaded by around ten million users.
Earlier in February last year, Musk had asked people on Twitter to delete Facebook accounts. Now due to the new privacy policy of WhatsApp, Musk got another chance to take a jibe at the social media giant. WhatsApp’s new privacy policy goes into effect from February 8, 2021. Users will have the option of deleting their account if they do not agree to the new policy.
