Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, disclosed that he donated about $6 billion worth of the company's stock to charity in November of last year. Musk gave $5.74 billion worth of stock between November 19 and November 29, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, according to Bloomberg.

The amount donated is based on the average price of the stock on the days he sold it. According to the article, it is one of the largest donations ever made to a charity. The name of the trust, however, was not mentioned in the documents.

The charitable action, according to the source, was a response to Tesla CEO Elon Musk's struggle with lawmakers such as Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren over inequality and a prospective wealth tax. After the president of the UN's food-aid agency proposed that billionaires like Musk "sign up now, on a one-time basis," Musk said he'd sell stocks if the UN could prove it could help end world hunger.

Musk's eponymous foundation has become more active in recent years, promising big, eight-figure gifts to the community near his South Texas spaceport, a $100 million carbon removal competition, and $5 million to two scientists for Covid-19 research. Previously, the majority of his foundation's donations were made to donor-advised funds (DAFs), which are charitable trusts.

Tesla will not pay any federal taxes this year, according to a previous report, as the EV company's recent financial filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission revealed that its federal tax bill was zero. Musk did said that he expects to pay $11 billion in tax bills to the Internal Revenue Service, but that he may not have to pay any federal taxes for a long time.
