Tech Billionaire Elon Musk’s AI venture, xAI, has officially launched a new iOS app called Grok, giving users access to its chatbot, which can perform tasks like rewriting, summarizing, and generating images from text prompts. Initially available only through Musk's social media platform X, Grok can now be accessed via a standalone app for iOS users, offering an expanded user experience.
The Grok app, currently in its beta version, is available for free on the Apple App Store and is designed specifically for X users. It allows access to xAI's latest model, Grok 2, which brings a more powerful, efficient chatbot. The app’s description highlights that Grok is "AI-powered, truthful, useful, and curious," designed to answer any question, create vivid images, and analyze uploaded pictures to provide deeper insights.
Among the key features of the Grok app are real-time data retrieval from the web and X platform, image generation capabilities, and a conversational tone described as "engaging and humorous." The app also emphasizes user privacy, which is a key selling point.
Previously, Grok was accessible only on X, but with the new app, users can interact with the chatbot independently. As of now, there are no subscription plans, and the app remains free for download. The beta version of the app is presently available only in the United States.
This launch follows a previous update in December when xAI introduced a free version of Grok for all X users. Along with the new app, xAI also unveiled Grok 2, a more advanced version of the chatbot that is faster, more accurate, and supports better instruction-following and multilingual capabilities.
In a blog post, xAI shared that Premium and Premium+ users on X would receive higher usage limits and early access to new features. In addition, the company revealed that it secured USD6 billion in a Series C funding round this past December, which will be used to accelerate the growth and advancement of its artificial intelligence technology. The funds will be used to advance AI infrastructure, develop groundbreaking products, and fuel future technologies aimed at exploring the true nature of the universe.
