LOS ANGELES: In Netflix's "Emily in Paris," French actress Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu portrays the stylish French boss Sylvie Grateau, Emily Cooper's (Lily Collins) adversary.
She almost steals the scene with her elegant attire and Machiavellian managerial style.
While 'Emily in Paris' had propelled her to global fame, Leroy-Beaulieu is a veteran of French films and TV, having worked with renowned filmmakers such as Roger Vadim, Coline Serreau and Philippe Le Guay as well as Andrzej Wajda, James Ivory and Robert Altman, reports 'Variety'.
The actor admitted that she loved exploring the darker aspects of her character.
Philippine told, her character is more frightened than malicious.
"Similar to Darren (Star, show creator). When you first meet him, he seems incredibly icy, but in reality, he protects himself like many highly sensitive people do. Darren and Sylvie are similar to one another in several ways. She isn't perfect either; she has dark sides, which I love acting to the fullest." She continued by saying, "As soon as I started reading this, I had the impression that she was acting and moving in a really hard and constrained manner, as if she were concealing something. And in Season 2, we learn the following: She had to toughen up to deal with the Parisian environment after moving to Paris from the seaside town of Saint-Tropez to pursue a profession. She has emancipated herself from her American employers by the beginning of Season 3 and has realised that she can collaborate with Emily. I'm pleasantly shocked that my character has changed so much because I didn't anticipate it."
