New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is probing allegations of money laundering in the National Herald case, has again issued summons to Congress working president Sonia Gandhi. Officials have said on Friday (June 10, 2022) that the Directorate has sent her fresh summons to appear for questioning on June 23. On the issue of summoning Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi by the ED in the National Herald case, Congress is going to hold a press conference across the country tomorrow i.e. on June 12.

75-year-old Sonia Gandhi was earlier asked by the ED to appear on June 8, but Sonia could not appear due to being infected with corona.   So she asked ED for a new date. Officials said she has been given a fresh date of June 23 to appear before the investigating agency in Delhi, where her statement will be recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi is also expected to be questioned on June 13 in the case. The case is linked to the probe into alleged financial irregularities in the party-promoted Young Indian, which owns the National Herald newspaper.

Earlier on June 1, the investigating agency had issued a summons to the Congress president asking her to appear before it on June 8, but on June 2, she got corona. Due to this, she could not appear and had asked for a new date. The probe agency has also questioned Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Pawan Bansal in connection with the case. The ED official wants to record the statements of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Apart from this, it also wants to find out about the role of everyone in economic transactions.
