England dominated the opening session of the fourth Test of the five-match series at the Kennington Oval on Thursday, claiming the wickets of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Cheteshwar Pujara. India's total at lunch was 54/3, with Kohli (18*) and Ravindra Jadeja (2*) at the crease undefeated. The opening session saw 25 overs bowled, and the English bowlers made sure to repay skipper Joe Root's trust in them when he won the toss and chose to bowl.

The Indian openers, Rohit and Rahul, were sent to bat and combined prudence with aggressiveness, seeing through the opening deliveries of James Anderson and Ollie Robinson. However, Chris Woakes' arrival paid off right away, as he removed Rohit (11), forcing an end to the 28-run opening stand.

Pujara then joined Rahul in the middle, and the pair struggled to score any runs for over five overs, which ultimately resulted in a wicket, when Rahul (17) was caught in front by Ollie Robinson, dropping India to 28/2. Pujara (4) also failed to leave a mark with the bat as he chased a wide delivery and his wicket was grabbed by James Anderson, reducing India to 39/3 in the 20th over. In the end, Kohli and Jadeja ensured that India went into the lunch break without losing any further wicket.

Brief Scores: India 54/3 (Virat Kohli 18*, KL Rahul 17, Chris Woakes 1-4) vs England.
