An IndiGo flight bound for Bangalore had to turn back to Kolkata shortly after takeoff due to an engine failure. The incident occurred on Friday evening, leading to a full emergency being declared at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. Fortunately, there were no reports of fire or sparks, and all passengers disembarked safely.
The flight, designated as 6E0573, took off from Kolkata at 10:36 p.m. and was scheduled to land in Bangalore. However, just 17 minutes later, the aircraft's left engine failed, prompting the crew to return to the Kolkata airport. The emergency alert, which was issued at 10:39 p.m., was lifted at 11:08 p.m.
A spokesperson confirmed that the engine failure necessitated the return to Kolkata. The airport's runways were cleared and handed over to Air Traffic Control to ensure a safe landing.
This incident follows a recent emergency involving another IndiGo flight, which had to land in Nagpur after a passenger experienced a medical emergency. The passenger, who showed signs of severe distress including shaking and loss of consciousness, was admitted to a hospital in Nagpur where he is being treated for a seizure disorder.
In another report of incident, on August 15, an Akasa Air flight from Varanasi to Mumbai made an emergency landing in Bhopal after a passenger fell ill and was later pronounced dead by doctors.
