Engineer from IIT Bombay, Kanishak Kataria tops UPSC 2018

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has declared the Final Result for the UPSC Civil Services Exam 2018. A total of 759 candidates have qualified the examination.The most of the toppers have engineering as the qualification.

Kanishak Kataria who is  an engineering graduate from IIT Bombay has topped the Civil Services examination. Kanishak is a Computer Science & Engineering graduate.  Srushti Jayant Deshmukh who is a Chemical Engineer is the topper among women candidates securing an overall fifth rank.

Top 25 candidates belong to subjects of Engineering, Sciences, Economics, Law, Mathematics, History, Political Science, Public administration and Commerce. Much like the topper, Kanishak who is from IIT Bombay, many are from the top institutes of the country like IITs, NITs, NLU, BITS Pilani, DU, Mumbai University, Anna University, Pune University, etc. The top 25 candidates comprise 15 men and 10 women.

Talking of the Top 5, Kanishak Kataria had mathematics as his optional subject. As for Srushti, she is an M.Phil graduate in Chemical Engineer from Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, (RGPV) Bhopal. She cracked the UPSC in her first attempt.

A total of 4, 93, 972 candidates had appeared for the examination which was conducted in June 2018. This was less than half the number of candidates (10,65,552) who had applied for the examination. Of these candidates, only 10, 468 candidates had qualified for the main examination and 1994 were called for personality test.
