Bengaluru: One of the two engineers was seriously injured in a fire following a heat blast at a 370 MW gas-based combined cycle power plant in Yelahanka, Karnataka's capital, Bengaluru. According to the police, the deceased was identified as Balaji Murugan. He was admitted to the burn ward of Victoria Hospital in the city and died Monday night.

It may be mentioned that at least 15 employees who were working in the 370 MW gas power plant of Karnataka Power Corporation Limited were injured in the accident on 2nd October. KPCL claimed that during the initial investigation, it was suspected that the oil spill could fire. The statement said, "The root cause is being analyzed to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. The combined cycle gas power plant at Yelahanka is under construction and in the commissioning stage. It is being constructed by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL)."

Karnataka state fire and emergency services director K Shiv Kumar had said that the heat blast at KPCL's combined cycle power plant (370 MW) in Yelahanka occurred when engineers were conducting tests in the gas turbine chamber. He said, "The plant had to start its operations in December. They had done tests all day. But when they were doing the test, the pressure was found to vary. Natural gas is supplied to this plant by GAIL India Limited. The incident took place when the engineers of KPCL were doing several investigations to test the turbine. "
