In the first session on Friday, India's primary indices, the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50, extended their losses and plummeted substantially due to soaring crude oil prices.
At 10.50 a.m., the Sensex was down 1.78 percent, or 980 points, at 54,122, while the NSE Nifty was down 1.77 percent, or 292 points, at 16,206. The top five losses among the Nifty 50 stocks were Asian Paints, Maruti Suzuki, Eicher Motors, and Hindustan Unilever, which fell 5 to 3 percent in range.
Most of the sector indices in the National Stock Exchange were trading in the red. Nifty Auto and Nifty were underperforming the index by falling over 2.5 per cent and 1.8 per cent, respectively, in early trade. However, Nifty Metal index moved as much as 0.57 per cent higher
In the early session, however, the top five gainers were UPL, Dr Reddy's, ITC, Ultratech Cement, and Tata Steel.
