Istanbul: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan suddenly called a meeting of his campaign staff and instructed them to start full preparations for next year's presidential election, according to reports in Turkish media on Thursday.

Erdogan called a surprise meeting of his campaign staff on Wednesday to get their views on the upcoming election, according to Yeni Safaq newspaper. According to reports, his team discussed the methodology and content of the election manifesto, with particular emphasis on developing new discourses and addressing the economy and justice.

Erdogan also gave his campaign staff five minutes to outline their ideas for election activities before instructing them to begin preparations for the election. According to Yeni Safak, the president was aware of the attitudes of the employees.

Turkey's Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag announced the date for the 2023 presidential election on Friday, June 18, despite vocal calls by the opposition to change it.

In 2018, the People's Alliance Electoral Bloc was created by the ruling Justice and Development Party (JDP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP). Until June 9, when he officially announced his candidacy during a meeting with his supporters in the city of Izmir, Erdogan had long kept his intention to run for president, this time a secret, for a very long time. However, he urged Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the head of Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party, to announce his candidacy as soon as possible.
