Erdogan appoints spokesperson Ibrahim Kalin as intelligence chief

ANKARA: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has designated his chief presidential advisor and spokesperson, Ibrahim Kalin as the new head of the Turkish National Intelligence Organization.

Ibrahim  Kalin assumes the role previously held by Hakan Fidan, who has been appointed as the Foreign Minister in Erdogan's new cabinet, as per international media  reports.

Fidan had served as the chief of National Intelligence Agency since 2010. Kalin, once a veteran career diplomat, has worked  in several senior positions in the Turkish government.  He  also became the first coordinator of the Prime Ministry Public Diplomacy Coordinatorship when it was established in 2010.

In 2012, Ibrahim  Kalin advanced to the position of deputy undersecretary of the Prime Ministry when Erdogan was Prime Minister.

Erdogan, as the president, entrusted Kalin with the responsibility of presidential press secretary in 2014, prior to  appointing him as the chief advisor to the president in 2018.

Ibrahim Kalin is a prominent figure in Turkish politics, serving as the Deputy Undersecretary to the President of Turkey. He has held this position since 2014 and has been actively involved in shaping Turkey's foreign policy and promoting its interests on the global stage.

Kalin is known for his expertise in international relations, particularly in the fields of Middle Eastern affairs and Islamic studies. He has been involved in various diplomatic initiatives, including Turkey's efforts to address the Syrian crisis and its engagement with regional and international partners.

As a spokesperson for the Turkish government, Kalin has represented Turkey in numerous international forums and has been instrumental in conveying Turkey's official positions on various issues. He has also been a key advocate for strengthening Turkey's relationships with its allies and expanding its role in regional and global affairs.

In addition to his political role, Ibrahim Kalin is also recognized as a prominent intellectual and writer. He has authored several books on Islam, democracy, and Turkish foreign policy, contributing to the discourse on these topics both domestically and internationally.
