ESIC adds over 16 lakh new subscribers in February

The ESIC - Employees' State Insurance Corporation - reported that nearly 16.03 lakh new members joined its social security scheme in February, this year, a  provisional payroll data released on Tuesday, April 18, reads.

The data also showed that as many as  11,000 new establishments registered under the Employees' State Insurance Scheme during the same month, extending social security coverage to their employees.

7.42 lakh new hires, or 46% of the total number of new hires in February, were in the age range of 18 to 24 years old, making up the majority of the new registrations. This was highlighted by the labour ministry as proof of the nation's youth's excellent employment prospects.

A gender-based study of the payroll information revealed that the Employees' State Insurance programme covered 3.12 lakh female employees. 49 transgender employees also signed up for the programme during the month under review, illustrating ESIC's dedication to serving all facets of society. Since data generation is a continuous process, the payroll data is still considered tentative.

The payroll data is provisional since data generation is an ongoing exercise, it said.
