Imphal: Chief Guest, Manipur Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh said that setting up of self-help groups in rural areas was the main guest at the overview program by Block Resource Centre-Start up Village Entrepreneurship Program (SVEP) under Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission. The aim is to strengthen women empowerment. He said that this would end unemployment and enhance the socio-economic condition of the people in rural areas. A total of 44 Self Help Groups (SHGs) were provided loans on Saturday at the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrated at Uchekon Nongpok Community Hall in Imphal East. Besides, a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh was also given to the best performing SHGs of Sawombang Block. assigned to a group.

Biswajit Singh also talked about the Mission for Economic Empowerment of Traditional Artisans and Craftsmen (MEETAC) and its importance for Self Help Groups. He asked the SHG members to approach MEETAC and look for ways to increase the value of their products. Speaking on the issue of training under capacity building for SHGs under various departments, he said that this training would increase the value of their products in the market.

The Minister said that 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' is a nationwide campaign launched by the Government of India and emphasized that people need to convert it into 'Jan Andolan' or Jan Andolan. Such small changes at the local level can contribute to bringing significant benefits at the national level, he added. Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and celebrate 75 years of independence of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements.
