Ukraine: Visiting High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell reaffirmed the EU's support for Ukraine.
During a press conference, Borrell stated, "We are here first to reaffirm the European Union's unequivocal support for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity."
According to SOURCEagency, the European Union has been offering political, financial, and economic support to Kiev, with Borrell stating that the EU's Association Arrangement with Ukraine is "the most complete agreement it has with any other third country in the world."
According to the source, the EU has given Ukraine about 17 billion euros ($19 billion) in aid since 2014. Regarding the security situation along Ukraine's borders, Borrell stated that the EU is interested in de-escalating tensions through negotiations and a strong stance on Ukraine's assistance. On Tuesday, Borrell landed in Ukraine for a three-day working visit, his first overseas travel since 2022.
In 2017, Ukraine and the EU signed a comprehensive Association Agreement that included a free trade agreement as well as a wide range of law and regulation concerns. Since 2014, a battle has erupted between Ukrainian government troops and pro-independence separatists in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
