Kolkata: In North Bengal, the Army conducted 'Exercise Devil Strike' from January 22 to 27, featuring the active participation of the Air Force. More than 1000 paratroopers from the Eastern Command and IAF's GARUDs engaged in the exercise, utilizing various aircraft such as Rafale, C-130 Hercules, AN-32, and indigenous ALH helicopters. The training drill emphasized the seamless coordination between the Army and the Indian Air Force, demonstrating their integrated approach on the battlefield, especially under challenging electronic warfare conditions.
The primary focus of the operation was to execute tasks typically handled by an airborne force, including the aerial deployment of troops, heavy armaments, equipment, logistical support, and the neutralization of High-Value Targets (HVTs). The exercise also involved coordination with advancing ground units and extraction operations. Utilizing the Guided Precision Aerial Delivery System (GPADS), heavy weaponry and equipment were airlifted. Troops then conducted drills to eliminate targets through direct action, supported by fighter aircraft and attack helicopters, which targeted locations identified by ground-based paratroopers using Laser Target Designators.
Remotely Piloted Vehicles played a crucial role in conducting Post-Strike Damage Assessment (PSDA) and facilitating re-engagement where necessary during the action. The exercise commenced with the aerial insertion of specialized troops securing an airhead within enemy territory through Combat Free Fall (CFF). The main force was subsequently deployed via Static Line Jumps. Upon achieving their mission objectives, para troopers seamlessly linked up with ground forces and practiced extraction maneuvers.
Adding another layer of complexity to the multidimensional exercise, underwater diving teams executed a diversionary attack near the Teesta Barrage. The exercise aimed to enhance the readiness and effectiveness of the armed forces in joint operations.
