Exit polls are all wrong as voters didn't tell truth to pollsters out of fear: Shashi Tharoor

The exit polls have projected a majority for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA)  which have proven to be a major disappointment for the Opposition. However, some in the opposition are still optimistic and hoping that the results will tell a different story. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor compared the situation with the Australian elections.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “I believe the exit polls are all wrong. In Australia last weekend, 56 different exit polls proved wrong. In India many people don’t tell pollsters the truth fearing they might be from the Government. Will wait till 23rd for the real results.”

The Congress spokesperson Sanjay Jha also dubbed the exit polls as laughable, stating it was the “fear factor” that led voters to lie to the pollsters about their vote.

“The silent voter will be king on May 23 rd 2019. The “ fear factor “ playing havoc with respondents to pollsters in an ugly polarized election. Ridiculous ExitPolls , almost laughable. UPA > NDA when the “real counting “ happens,” he tweeted.

The poll of polls, an aggregate of exit polls, has given the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) 292 of 543 seats and the Congress and its allies 127.

According to the poll of polls, the Congress’s performance hasn’t improved despite many efforts by the grand old party including introducing Priyanka Gandhi into active politics. Uttar Pradesh contributes the maximum number of seats to the lower house of the Parliament at 80 seats.
