A deadly explosion near Karachi Airport in Pakistan on Sunday night claimed the lives of two Chinese workers and left at least eight others injured, according to officials from both countries. The blast, which occurred outside Pakistan's largest airport, was caused by an oil tanker explosion, although investigations are ongoing to confirm the exact cause.

The Chinese Embassy confirmed that a convoy carrying Chinese staff from the Port Qasim Electric Power Company was attacked around 11 pm, leading to the deaths of two Chinese workers and injuring one more. The explosion also caused casualties among Pakistani nationals.

Zia Ul Hassan, the provincial home minister, said the explosion appeared to be an attack specifically targeting foreigners. Pakistan has a significant number of Chinese workers, mainly involved in Beijing's Belt and Road Initiative, which connects South and Central Asia to China.

Videos from the scene showed flames engulfing vehicles and a thick cloud of smoke rising into the sky. A large military presence quickly cordoned off the area, and security forces took control of the site.

The Chinese Embassy described the incident as a "terrorist attack" and called for a full investigation to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. The statement also urged Chinese citizens in Pakistan to take extra safety precautions.

"The Chinese Embassy and Consulates General in Pakistan strongly condemn this terrorist attack and express deep condolences to the innocent victims of both countries," the statement said.

Deputy Inspector General East Azfar Mahesar said that while the explosion appeared to be from an oil tanker, the investigation would take time to determine the exact nature of the blast. He added that police officers were among the injured.

Witnesses reported that the explosion was powerful enough to shake nearby buildings at the airport, according to Rahat Hussain, an employee in the civil aviation department.
