Makar Sankranti, Festival, is celebrated every year in the month of January. This year in 2017, we all will celebrate it on 15 January. The fest of kites, til laddu and chikkis is first Hindu festival of the 2017.

1. It is named so because on this day, the sun enters in the zodiac sign of Capricorn (Makara) thus called Makar and Sankranti represents the movement of the sun in the zodiac sign.

2. On this day, if you have ever noticed the day and night are equal and after this festival days become longer and nights becomes shorter.

3. All over the India, it is celebrated but is called with different names like Pongal, Lohri, Uttarayan, Maghi, Khichdi.

4. The logic behind kite flying is that the Hindus believes their body gets rid from bacteria while it gets exposed to the sun while flying the kite for long hours.

5. Distributing of sweets made of Tilli indicates bonding and good health. As in winter, it is also believed that eating jaggery and sesame is beneficial for health.
