The Mumbai Police on Tuesday filed a charge sheet in a court here in the alleged Television Rating Points (TRP) rigging scam. The charge sheet was submitted before a magistrate's court by the police's Crime Intelligence Unit, which is conducting an investigation into the case, an official said.
So far, the crime branch reportedly arrested 12 persons, including Republic TV's distribution head, pertaining to the case. The fake TRP scam came to light last month when rating agency Broadcast Audience Research Council filed a complaint through Hansa Research Group, alleging that certain television channels were rigging TRP numbers. Hansa had been tasked with installing barometers, which record viewership data at sample households.
TRP is a tool to judge which TV programs are viewed the most and also indicates the viewers' choice and popularity of a particular channel. It is calculated on the basis of television channel viewership in a confidential set of households and measuring barometers are installed at such locations.
