Amritsar: Following his remarkable victory in the recent Lok Sabha elections, the parents of "Waris Punjab De" chief and Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh have embarked on a mission to secure his release from jail. An application has been filed for his release or parole to enable him to take the oath as a Member of Parliament.

Singh's parents visited him at the central jail in Assam's Dibrugarh, where he is currently detained. His wife, Kirandeep Kaur, who has ties to the terrorist organization Babbar Khalsa, has been present since June 5th. The family is making every possible effort to secure Singh's release.

The family of the newly elected Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha MP has filed an application for his temporary release or parole to facilitate his oath-taking ceremony, as required by the constitution. They have completed the necessary legal formalities and submitted the plea before the local District Magistrate in Dibrugarh. However, it is uncertain whether Singh will receive immediate relief, and the oath-taking may be delayed.

Singh's father expressed joy over his son's electoral victory, stating, "We are very happy that our son has won the elections." He conveyed Singh's gratitude to the voters and emphasized his commitment to serving the public. Singh's mother echoed similar sentiments, expressing happiness after meeting him.

Meanwhile, Singh plans to write to the Punjab government seeking temporary release or parole for the oath-taking ceremony. If the government does not grant parole, his legal team intends to approach the court for relief.

As an independent candidate, Singh emerged victorious by defeating Congressman Kulbir Singh Zira by a significant margin. His controversial election manifesto, which circulated on social media, contained contentious proposals, including the closure of various establishments and restrictions on religious sects.

However, Singh's family denied the authenticity of the manifesto, and they refrained from celebrating his victory until a later date. Singh's electoral success has been overshadowed by his imprisonment under the National Security Act, along with other members of the pro-Khalistani outfit.

In a similar vein, another newly elected MP, Rashid Sheikh, who is also in jail, has sought interim bail to take oath as a Member of Parliament. Sheikh, a Kashmiri separatist leader, has been incarcerated in Tihar Jail since August 2019 on charges of alleged terror financing. Despite his legal challenges, Sheikh emerged victorious in the Lok Sabha elections, defeating former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
