BASILICA OF BOM JESUS:-  Basilica of Bom Jesus is the most ancient church in Goa that is mostly visited by tourists. constructed late back in the 15th century, the church has been crafted with precious stones and surreal works of impressionist painters. it consists of the remains of St. Francis Xavier which defines the finest baroque architecture. snuggled in old goa, this spiritual place carries a coffin that is on display for tourists. A major crowd comes to visit this glorious church. you must not miss a visit to this grand church.  

This Jesuit church is India's first minor basilica and is considered to be one of the best examples of baroque architecture and Portuguese colonial architecture in India. it is one of the seven wonders of Portuguese origin in the world. The body of St Francis Xavier which miraculously defied the laws of nature, of turning into dust, lies to this day in a silver casket in the church of bom jesus basilica in Goa, India. ceremonies to honor his death are performed on December 3rd, all over the world, the day he was buried.

 

SE CATHEDRAL:- Se Cathedral is the largest church in Goa. The grandeur of the church is unique which makes it look beautiful. the church was constructed by the Roman Catholics under Portuguese rule. it is a religious place that is dedicated to St. Catherine and features the great golden bell.  church goa. the largest church in Asia, the cathedral is the top tourist attraction in Goa. The Se cathedral was built to commemorate the victory of the Portuguese under Afonso de Albuquerque over a Muslim army, leading to the capture of the city of Goa in 1510. since the day of the victory happened to be on the feast of Saint Catherine, the cathedral was dedicated to her.

 

CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF THE MOUNT:- It is one of the most beautiful, old, and famous churches in Goa. One can get highly impressed by its interior, as it is crafted elegantly. right beside the cathedral, the church offers outstanding views of the Mondovi River. This one of the must-visit churches in Goa is thronged by devotees on the day of the feast. It is also one of the best tourist destinations in the city. Our Lady of mount Carmel, or Virgin of Carmel, is the title given to the blessed Virgin Mary in her role as patroness of the Carmelite order, particularly within the catholic church.

The first Carmelites were Christian hermits living on mount carmel in the holy land during the late 12th and early to mid-13th century. Hermits lived on mount carmel near the Fountain of Elijah in northern Israel in the 12th century. they had a chapel dedicated to our lady. by the 13th century, they became known as “brothers of our Lady of mount carmel.” They soon celebrated a special mass and office in honor of Mary. A large number of tourists visit this church to explore the story of an old lady and take worship.

CHURCH OF ST. CAJETAN:- This church was built by Italian monks of the Order of Theatines in 1665. it’s crowned with a huge hemispherical dome, in the pattern of the Roman basilica of St. peter. However, Instead of two cupolas, it exhibits two quadrangular towers. the façade exhibits superb examples of Corinthian architecture. four statues of St. Paul, st. peter, st. john the Evangelist and St. Matthew wrought in basalt is niched within it. it also has the words, “domus mea, domus oration/s” which means, “my house is a house of prayer” etched boldly across the portal.  Within the compound of the church is an even more ancient arch with pillars covered in Hindu carvings.

 

These are believed to be the only remaining part of the palace of adil shah, Sultan of Bijapur. The construction of the church and convent began in 1655 and was completed in 1661. the church is built of laterite blocks covered with lime plaster. although small compared to some of the other Goan churches, it is heralded as being the epitome of art and craftsmanship. the sparkling white façade speaks eloquently to the European origins of the church's architecture. in keeping with theatine architectural practices, this church has no towers but instead boasts two turrets that act as the belfry's bell towers.

The frontispiece of the church has Corinthian columns, two stories high supporting a triangular pediment. The cupola is visible, crowned with a lantern. there are also four ornamental niches in the façade containing the statues of the apostles. People keep on traveling to this church to see its history and beautiful interior. Its interior is one of the best interiors of any church.

MAE DE DEUS CHURCH:- It is one of the stunning churches in Goa that is designed gracefully. Its great whitewashed walls with medieval pinnacles will remind you of the castles from Disneyland. the church looks more ravishing at night as the lights illuminate it. it is one of the best churches to see in north goa due to offering an outstanding view of Gothic architecture and ornate interiors.

This popular church in Goa is known for housing the miraculous statue of Mae de Deus (mother of god) brought from the ruins of the convent of Mae de Deus at old goa.
