Chennai: Members of superstar Rajinikanth's fan club staged a demonstration in Chennai on Sunday to request the actor to join politics. The Chennai Police permitted the fans to stage a demonstration at Valluvar Kottam.

After superstar Rajinikanth withdrew his decision to enter active politics citing health issues, members of the actor’s fan club staged a demonstration in Chennai on Sunday to request the actor to take back his decision not to enter politics. Despite warning from Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM) top leadership, a party functionary from Thanjavur had called on Rajinikanth’s fans to participate in the protest against Superstar’s decision to exit electoral politics today.

Rajnikanth was expected to launch a political party this month but made a statement announcing otherwise in December 2020.  In a statement posted on his Twitter account, he had said that he sees as a message from God what happened during the shooting of his upcoming film ‘Annaatthe’ and the subsequent health care. The actor was hospitalised in Hyderabad last Friday after his blood pressure fluctuated.
