Former Australian Open runner-up Joe Wilfred Tsonga has announced that he is going to bid goodbye to tennis after the French Open tennis tournament. Tsonga, who has been struggling with injuries in the middle of his career, is thus about to end his career in front of his home audience.

Tsonga, 36, from France, achieved a career-best fifth ranking in 2012 but his current ranking is 220 since he last suffered an injury. This means Tsonga is not going to get a direct entry into the main draw of Roland Garros and may have to rely on being given a wild card by the organizers. Tsonga is the first of the French legends to appear almost 20 years ago who is retiring. Gayle Monfils, Richard Gasquet and Giles Simone will also be present on the list of these veterans.

Tsonga has said that this is going to be the ultimate adventure for me. This is going to be my 15th tournament at Roland Garros. I hope I'm going to stay fit. Tsonga has reached the semi-finals of the French Open in 2013 and 2015. He won 18 ATP titles and reached the final of the Australian Open in 2008 where he suffered a defeat against Novak Djokovic.
