'Rail Roko Andolan' has biggest impact in UP, farmers stop trains in Muzaffarnagar and Ghaziabad

Lucknow: The United Kisan Morcha (SKM) is agitating across the country today (10 am to 6 pm) in connection with the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri. The front says an impartial inquiry into the Lakhimpur violence cannot take place unless Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra is removed from office. The leaders of the organization are demanding that Mishra be removed from the cabinet as well as arrested. The Morcha has termed the Lakhimpur case as a massacre. In Amritsar, farmers are staging Dharna on railway tracks.

Due to farmers' agitation, some nearby areas including Rohtak, Panipat, Sonepat, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Bahadurgarh, Ambala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Jammu, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Shamli, Saharanpur, Moradabad have been affected more on rail traffic. Farmers have blocked railway tracks at various places on these routes several times in the past. The biggest impact of the demonstration is visible in the western districts of Uttar Pradesh. Farmers have blocked the railway track in Muzaffarnagar. This has stopped the wheels of many trains. Farmers have also stopped trains in Ghaziabad. However, in Bulandshahr, the Harpal faction has cancelled the Rail Roko agitation.

The heavy police force has been deployed at railway stations and tracks in view of farmers' agitation. Uttar Pradesh ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar said that 44 company PAC and 4 company para-military forces have been deployed in view of the agitation. Senior IPS are already deployed in 14 sensitive districts of western UP.
